Toiletry collection to benefit Allegheny Valley Association of Churches

Spherion Staffing and Recruiting in Upper Burrell is collecting toiletries through the end of the month in honor of National Volunteer Month and the local Spherion team’s 30th anniversary.

The project will be benefit Allegheny Valley Association of Churches. Items needed include diapers, laundry detergent, dish detergent, feminine products, razors, shaving cream, brushes, hairspray, wash cloths, towels and cleaning supplies.

Donations will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at Spherion, 312 Alvin Drive, Upper Burrell.

Spaghetti dinner to benefit local photographer

A spaghetti dinner to benefit Steve Matto of From the Scene Photography will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Washington Township Volunteer Fire Company event hall, 4078 Route 66.

The menu will include spaghetti, meatballs, salad, bread, dessert and beverage. Cost is $10; younger than 12, $5, and there will be a basket raffle.

Matto is recovering from a leg amputation and proceeds will help with medical bills. The event is sponsored by the Alle-Kiski Valley Fire Departments.

Today: Keystone State Quilters & Sewers will host a free fabric basket demonstration at 7 p.m. in the Allegheny Township municipal building community room, 136 Community Building Road. Use the side entrance. Refreshments will be served. Details: 724-733-7682.

April 16: Bell Township Volunteer Fire Department is holding a “You’ve Been Egged” fundraiser through April 11. Candy-filled plastic eggs can be delivered April 16 to your yard in the Bell and Avonmore areas via the firetruck with the Easter Bunny or a basket can be left on the porch with a note from you.
